AY: When did you start painting?
RM: I started painting when I took an art class at Cardinal Mooney High School in 1963.
AY: When did you first know you loved to paint?
RM: I became involved with our high school plays and was part of the stage crew; working on sets,
scenery, and backdrops. From this point I continued with art classes throughout high school
and decided to major in art at college.
AY: Where did you study?
RM: I graduated as an Art Education major from YSU. I later went on to earn a Masters Degreee in
art from Kent State University.
AY: Why did you choose painting as your medium?
RM: Painting is a wonderful medium and I love working with color on my canvas to create 2 and 3
dimensional works. I continually strive to challenge myself by creating themes for new works.
AY: What inspires your work?
RM: I am insprired by looking at the world and interpreting what I see in my own mind through the
use of mixed media to create 2 and 3 dimensional designs and sculptures.
AY: Who is your favorite Artist?
RM: My favorite artist is Pablo Picasso
AY: How long have you been painting?
RM: I have been painting for 44 years.
AY: How long have you lived in Youngstown or the area?
RM: I have lived in Youngstown my entire life.
AY: What do you hope for Youngstown in the area of Art?
RM: I hope for a revitalization that will include a rebirth in the Arts. We are moving in a positive direction
with Arts Youngstown, however, we need to continue to promote the Arts in whatever way we
can; as the Arts are the core of our civilization!!!
